From Venice to Viareggio, Ivrea to Fano, and Putignano to Sciacca. Carnival remains one of the most popular off-season tourist activities this year. Visitors, traditional sweets, and masks produce more than €1.5 billion. This estimate is based on a poll undertaken by CNA, one of the largest Italian organizations representing artisanal firms and small and medium-sized enterprises, among the Confederation's member companies that are directly or indirectly involved in carnival activities. Nearly 2 million visitors are expected, producing over €500 million in overnight stays and related activities, mainly to the increased presence of international tourists, who account for more than half of all arrivals in numerous areas. Venice continues to be the most popular Carnival destination, with an estimated commercial turnover of more than €200 million. Viareggio follows, accounting for around €80 million. Typical Carnival sweets, on the other hand, generate almost €900 million annually, having progressively expanded in recent years and being sold as early as mid-January. Masks remain the undisputed stars of the Carnival industry, with costumes ranging from the classics Harlequin, Pulcinella, and Colombina to costumes featuring the most popular cartoon characters among the approximately 8 million preschool and elementary school children, generating a market worth approximately 180 million euros.
