Approximately 80% of young Italians aged 20 to 29 live at home with their parents. Italy is the second most developed country in the globe in this special ranking, trailing only South Korea. The data were prepared by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) and submitted to the European Parliament's Housing Committee. The proportion of young individuals aged 20 to 29 who reside with their parents exceeds 70% in only seven developed countries worldwide: Slovenia, Poland, Greece, Slovakia, Spain, Italy, and South Korea, in that order. The latter two, in particular, hover around an impressive 80%. As a result, only one in five individuals under the age of 30 in Italy can afford to live independently or, if they have the financial resources, opt to live with their parents. This is a significant departure from the averages of developed countries: the OECD is currently at approximately 50%, which is slightly lower than the European average of nearly 55%.
