Fincantieri has disclosed an industrial partnership with Generative Bionics to create a humanoid welding automaton that will operate in conjunction with humans in the group's shipyards. The deal aims to combine the shipbuilding giant's industrial knowledge with Generative Bionics' robotics platform. The major goal is to create a humanoid capable of doing specified welding operations. The robot will have artificial intelligence and superior manipulation, perception, and vision skills to monitor the weld seam. Safety will be prioritized, ensuring that the system may operate in direct collaboration with workers, in full accordance with all current standards, and without work area limits. The project will take four years, with initial tests beginning at the shipyard by the end of 2026, ensuring operational capabilities within the first two years. Development and testing will take place at Fincantieri's shipyard in Sestri Ponente. In terms of Generative Bionics, the collaboration with Fincantieri "is part of our industrialization journey toward the market", stated CEO and co-founder Daniele Pucci. "Shipyards are a strategic asset for global manufacturing, and for this reason", he continued, "we chose Fincantieri to demonstrate how our Physical AI solutions can translate into reliable, safe, and truly useful systems".
