Italy’s exports in 2025 amounted to €643 billion and grew in value by 3.3% compared to the previous year. This outperformed the other three main Eurozone economies: France (up 2%), Germany (up 0.9%), and Spain (down 0.4%). The international trade balance for 2025 was €50.7 billion, up €2.5 billion from the previous year. "It is still too early", writes Il Sole 24 Ore, "to draw conclusions on the impact of US tariffs on international trade, especially since global operators (industries, wholesalers, retail chains) exhibited unusual behavior (stockpiling, unusual movements between foreign branches, etc.) both before and after the introduction of the new tariffs". However, for the time being, Made in Italy items have performed admirably. According to the WTO, Italy's dollar-denominated exports surpassed those of Japan for five months (January, May, July, September, and October). Furthermore, in November, the two countries' exports were nearly identical ($62 billion for Italy and $62.6 billion for Japan). A result unthinkable until a few years ago.
