The town of Brendola, in the province of Vicenza, is looking for "sniffers" to monitor unpleasant airborne pollution. Requirements include a strong sense of scent, a minimum age of 18 years, residency in Brendola or neighboring municipalities, possession of a smartphone with an active internet connection, and the absence of any known respiratory conditions, such as asthma or allergies, that could potentially impede olfactory perception. The work is straightforward. It involves "conducting surveys of the area, on the requested dates and times, following predetermined routes and stopping at designated stations, where sensory measurements are taken", that is, "sniffing the air at intervals and entering one's olfactory sensations into a digital questionnaire". The smell sniffer will receive a regular salary. The project was launched to eliminate pollution caused by unpleasant scents, particularly in the industrial areas. Once the assessors have identified the odors, the data will be cross-referenced to determine which company is responsible for the unpleasant odor.
