A fire in the heart of Naples damaged the ancient Teatro Sannazaro. The fire broke out at dawn on February 17 among residential buildings and engulfed part of the theater inaugurated in the mid-19th century. At least 22 residences were damaged, and about 60 people were evacuated, with multiple individuals suffering from smoke inhalation. There were no injuries recorded. The dome collapsed, causing "total damage to the theater. It is completely destroyed", said the provincial commander of the Naples Fire Brigade, Giuseppe Paduano, to journalists. He stated that "now there will be operations that we usually carry out after a fire, and they will take some time". The Teatro Sannazaro was inaugurated with a grand soirée on December 26, 1847, featuring "La Petite Marquise" by French librettist and playwright Henri Meilhac, performed by the Le Roy-Clarence company.
