The Sanremo effect goes beyond national borders: among the most loved Italian songs worldwide are many that competed in the Italian Song Festival. This is the conclusion of the current edition of the survey "Ambassador Songs of Italy", which is supported by the Dante Alighieri Society through its global network. An online questionnaire was completed by more than 800 individuals, ranging in age from 14 to 90, who either teach or study our language in 57 countries worldwide. The participants were questioned regarding their favorite Italian song, and Italian teachers were specifically asked which song they prefer to include into their lessons and feel is most beneficial for their teaching. Popular songs include "Con te partirò" by Andrea Bocelli, "Sarà perché ti amo" by Ricchi e Poveri, and "Nel blu dipinto di blu" by Domenico Modugno. Along with the legendary successes, much more contemporary, if not timely, musical contributions appear, like "Zitti e buoni" by Maneskin, "Soldi" by Mahmood, and "Sinceramente" by Annalisa. The survey was designed and carried out by Professor Fabio Caon, a lecturer at Ca' Foscari University of Venice and a singer-songwriter, with the goal of monitoring the state of Italian songs from the unique perspective of those who teach or study Italian abroad, as well as promoting the teaching of Italian around the world through popular songs.
