Flag bearers for Italy will be two symbolic champions of these Olympics: Lisa Vittozzi and Davide Ghiotto, representing a delegation that so far has collected 26 podium finishes, turning Milan Cortina 2026 into the most successful Winter Olympics ever for Italy. "I am truly speechless and very excited", said the Friuli athlete, who won the first solo Olympic gold medal in Italian biathlon history in the pursuit and silver in the mixed relay. "This nomination is a source of pride for me", she stated. "Among so many athletes who deserved to be nominated by CONI for this historic Olympics, President Buonfiglio chose me". Ghiotto, a gold medalist in men's pursuit speed skating, stood behind her: "I've never been considered for such an important event. I'm not used to this", the skater said, "and it's even more exciting to see my name next to that of a 'queen' like Lisa". To conclude this exciting, record-breaking, and medal-winning Olympics, a ceremony inspired by Italy's cultural and artistic splendor, titled "Beauty in Action", was envisioned as a spectacular tale blending music, images, and performances, featuring stars such as singer-songwriter Achille Lauro, actress Benedetta Porcaroli, and renowned DJ and producer Gabry Ponte.
