A domestic argument escalated into serious violence in Naples during the televised Atalanta–Napoli match. After a penalty was denied to Napoli, an intense outburst by a 40-year-old supporter sparked a tragic misunderstanding.
According to investigators, the man’s wife, a 35-year-old Neapolitan woman, believed the insults shouted at the television were directed at her. What began as a verbal confrontation quickly spiraled out of control. The woman allegedly threatened her husband and, after he refused to leave the home, hurled a pair of scissors at him before grabbing kitchen knives and attempting to stab him.
Bleeding but conscious, the man managed to call emergency services - first 112, then 118 - while the assault continued. When Carabinieri officers from the Capodimonte station arrived, they found one of the knives embedded in a wall.
The woman was arrested on charges of domestic abuse and aggravated assault, and also reported for illegal possession of weapons after officers discovered additional blades in her handbag. The victim remains hospitalized at the Ospedale del Mare and is not in life-threatening condition.
