Enel is accelerating its push into the U.S. renewable energy market with a landmark $1 billion investment, acquiring an 830-megawatt portfolio of wind and solar assets from Excelsior Energy Capital. The deal raises Enel’s installed capacity in North America to 13 gigawatts, underscoring its strategy of focusing on stable, high-growth markets where clean energy and industrial demand increasingly converge. The transaction, completed through subsidiaries Enel Green Power North America and Egpna Project Holdco 2, carries an enterprise value of approximately $1.3 billion. The acquired assets, located in key U.S. regions, are already operational and are expected to generate around 2.1 TWh of electricity annually. Enel estimates the deal will deliver a recurring positive contribution of roughly $145 million per year, fully funded through cash flows from ongoing operations. The move aligns with Enel’s “brownfield” strategy, which prioritizes the acquisition of existing, revenue-generating assets to ensure immediate returns while minimizing execution risks.
