President Sergio Mattarella arrived in Niscemi to express the Italian government's support for the community impacted by the landslide, which caused significant damage and left around 500 families homeless. The president of state flew over the devastated area by helicopter before visiting the city to meet with Mayor Massimiliano Conti, the head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabio Ciciliano, and numerous individuals. During his visit, Mattarella paused to talk with residents of the red zone. He reassured the individuals who described the ordeal, "We are present and we are working for Niscemi", underscoring the institutions' dedication to providing the affected population with the utmost attention and support. At the end of the inspection, the President was greeted with long applause from residents shouting, “Thank you for coming". He is then expected at the Mario Gori school institute. On Monday afternoon, February 23, he will fly to Palermo to take part in an advocacy and welcome ceremony for young people.
