The walls of the Roman bathhouse at the Colosseum - Imperial Forums station on Rome's Metro C line are currently undergoing scheduled and participatory maintenance. Restorers from the Colosseum Archaeological Park, in partnership with Cooperativa Archeologia, have repaired the construction of the domus, which dates from the 2nd century BC to Emperor Nero's fire in 64 AD. The structure was uncovered during excavations and transferred in 2024 to the station's intermediate level. The structure features a private bathhouse, a tiered pool, and a laconicum, which is a Roman bathhouse used for sweat baths. This activity was accompanied by on-site and online commentary to engage visitors in a heritage protection initiative. This is the first step toward care, sharing, and participatory conservation. The materials and activities were designed to avoid interfering with traveler traffic and to be compatible with the area's public use. As a result, the station museum becomes more accessible to passengers, reviving the public-exhibition interaction.
