To promote its investment in Virginia, the Avio Group will receive roughly $100 million in public incentives. This is the foundation of the Italian aerospace group's announcement that, through its subsidiary Avio USA, it will build a new plant in Hurt, Pittsylvania County, to manufacture solid rocket motors for defense, tactical propulsion, missile systems, and commercial space. Upon the Virginia General Assembly's approval—a formality for analysts—the group will be eligible for special incentives of up to $97.7 million, or approximately €83 million at current exchange rates, from the Commission for Major Employment and Investment Projects, based on an investment of over $500 million and the creation of over 1,000 high-quality jobs. Vice Admiral (ret.) James Syring, CEO of Avio USA, said he was proud “to support the United States government and our defense customers by accelerating the production of solid-propellant engines with the capabilities necessary to meet current national security priorities".
