In February, the Italian car market saw 157,334 registrations, 14% higher than in February 2025. Total volumes in the first two months of 2026 were 299,373 units, up 10.2% over the same period in 2025. After conducting a comprehensive analysis of registrations by fuel, the National Association of the Automotive Industry Supply Chain has determined that the gasoline-powered car market experienced an 11.9% decline in February, with a market share of 20.3%. Similarly, the diesel vehicle market experienced a 22.5% decline, with a market share of 6.7%. In the first two months of 2026, gasoline-powered car registrations fell by 18.6% and diesel registrations by 19.5%, with market shares of 19.6% and 7.1%, respectively. Mild and full hybrid vehicles surged by 34% in the month, accounting for 52.1% of the total, while overall sales jumped by 29.5%, accounting for 52.2%. Plug-in vehicle registrations climbed by 91.4% in February, accounting for 16% of the market (compared to 9.5% in February 2025); overall, they increased by 86.3%, accounting for 15.4% (an increase of 6.3 percentage points over the 2025 cumulative number). Electric vehicles had an 8% share for the month and a 7.3% share overall; sales increased by 81.3% in February and 61.3% in the first two months of the year. Plug-in hybrid sales rose by 102.7% in February and 116.7% overall. They account for 8% of registrations in a single month and 8.1% overall since the beginning of the year. Lastly, gas-powered automobiles comprised 4.9% of February registrations, with LPG vehicles comprising the entire category (a 43.9% decrease from the previous month). Overall, gas-powered vehicle registrations fell by 38.9%. In the first two months of 2026, gas-powered automobiles made up 5.6% of the market.
