Cesare Pavese's birthplace (1908-1950) will be transformed into a museum following the acquisition of the property by the municipal administration of Santo Stefano Belbo (Cuneo). The author and poet's parents' country home was sold in 1916, shortly after his father died. It is located in the heart of the places depicted in the novel "The Moon and the Bonfires" (1950), with the Gaminella hill behind it and the Salto hill in front, where Nuto's house-workshop can be seen. From that house, you can view Moncucco, the hill mentioned in the poetry "The Southern Seas" (from the collection Lavorare stanca, 1936). "The birthplace could be recovered and restored, but above all, it could be transformed into a museum capable of narrating these themes", stated Laura Capra, Mayor of Santo Stefano Belbo. "Preserving Pavese's birthplace," the mayor says, "means offering new generations and visitors a space where they can understand how roots can become a story, and how a small village in the Langhe can give rise to a voice capable of speaking to the world".
