Rome – Brazil relies on space to improve its institutional communications. The Office for Institutional Security of the Presidency of the Brazilian Republic (GSI) has picked Telespazio, a joint venture owned by Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%), to deliver a mobile satellite system capable of assuring secure and dependable communications across the country. The system, called VELOCE, is already operational and stems from a joint development between Telespazio Brasil and Grupo Racco. Based on low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology, VELOCE provides great resilience and consistent performance even in Brazil's most remote or difficult-to-reach places. GSI undertook comprehensive testing and validation of the system's performance in numerous operational circumstances before making the decision to select it. One of the most prominent features of VELOCE is its capacity to tolerate harsh environments. The terminals are certified to IP68 standards, which provide superior protection against dust, water, and harsh conditions. In practice, even in the most remote places or under adverse weather circumstances, the system enables uninterrupted and secure communications, which are critical for institutional activities and the preservation of sensitive information. According to Marzio Laurenti, CEO of Telespazio Brasil, "space is not only a strategic infrastructure, but also a platform that allows us to provide tangible services and real value to society. Our achievements in Brazil and throughout Latin America show how satellite technology can help meet institutional and societal needs".
