Belen Rodríguez, an Argentine showgirl who has worked on big Italian TV programs for 20 years, is preparing to take the B1 language test in April in order to obtain her Italian citizenship. Despite living in Italy for twenty years, the host, model, and actress has unable to secure a passport. "Why don't you give it to me? I'd like to take my son to America", Rodríguez stated to Fabio Fazio on the show "Che tempo che fa". She then remarked on the missed opportunity to get citizenship through marriage: "I was married, but I filed for divorce before five years. I wasn't even clever", she admitted, alluding to her marriage to host and dancer Stefano De Martino, which lasted from 2013 to 2015. To get Italian citizenship, current legislation demands at least ten years of continuous residence, sufficient income, no criminal record, and certification of Italian language ability at level B1. In Belén Rodríguez's case, only the final step remains. Once completed, she can submit the formal application to the Ministry of the Interior.
