A tram derailed early Monday morning in Rozzano, on the outskirts of Milan, causing disruption to public transport but fortunately leaving passengers unharmed. The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. when a tram on Line 15, heading toward the Via Guido Rossa terminus, left the tracks near the Fiordaliso shopping center. According to initial reports, only the central bogie of the vehicle derailed rather than the entire tram. Because the vehicle was traveling slowly near a traffic-light intersection, none of the passengers on board were injured. Authorities immediately suspended the line to allow crews to remove the tram and inspect the tracks. Replacement buses were deployed between Abbiategrasso station in Milan and Rozzano in both directions. The cause of the derailment remains unclear. One of the drivers at the scene said the tram had been operating normally and that no anomalies had been reported by the control system. However, a mechanical fault has not been ruled out. Police are also investigating whether other factors might have contributed to the incident, though sabotage is considered unlikely at this stage. The derailment comes during a troubled period for Milan’s tram network. On February 27, a tram on Line 9 derailed in Viale Vittorio Veneto, causing two fatalities and injuring around forty people. Just a day earlier, another out-of-service tram left the tracks near the curve between Via Galvani and Via Filzi, reportedly due to a loose bolt.
