Eni has settled its legal disputes with Nigeria and is relaunching oil and LNG production in the country with significant numbers that will make a difference in Italy’s overall energy supply: 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 5.7 million cubic metres of gas per day. Overall, Eni can now operate in two fields: Zabazaba and Etan, which have estimated reserves of around 500 million barrels. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met in Abuja to discuss Eni's continuing activities in the country and to present new initiatives targeted at boosting deep offshore development in Nigeria. "The key focus of the meeting," a statement said, "was the recent agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Eni on the conversion of Oil Prospecting License 245 (OPL 245). The agreement calls for the mutually agreeable resolution of all OPL 245 disputes and the discontinuation of international arbitration proceedings before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). As a result, it enables the conversion of the existing license into two development licenses". This move enhances Eni's relationship with Nigeria and sets the road for the development of offshore hydrocarbon resources.
