Where does Italian oil come from? According to last year's data, African countries account for the highest share (41.7%), with Libya (24.2%), Nigeria (5.5%), Niger (3%), and Algeria (2.9%). The former Soviet countries, excluding Russia, come in second with 29.9% of the oil, led by Azerbaijan (16.8%) and Kazakhstan (13.1%). The Americas account for another 13.5% of the total share, led by the United States (9%) and Brazil (2.4%). The Middle East accounts for 12.2% of the country's total crude oil imports, primarily from Iraq (6.1%) and Saudi Arabia (5.8%), with Kuwait and Syria contributing 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively. The remaining 2.7% of imported crude oil comes from Europe, with 1.7% from Norway, 0.9% from the United Kingdom, and only 0.1% from Greece. Last year, Italy imported 27.1% less from the Middle East (with a 12.8% drop from Saudi Arabia, 35.4% from Iraq, and 69.5% from Kuwait) compared to 2024. It imported 11.9% more from Africa, 13.2% more from the Americas (with a 122.1% increase from Brazil), 23.7% less from Europe, and 4.5% less from former Soviet countries.
