Between 2018 and 2025, Campania was the Italian area with the greatest improvement in innovation performance. The record growth rate was 22.8%, compared to Italy's average of 15.4%. This information is sourced from the European Commission and pertains to the Regional Innovation Scoreboard, which assesses the performance of the 241 EU regions in research and innovation on a biannual basis. The index encompasses a variety of metrics, including patents, investments, and youth entrepreneurship. Italy is ranked 14th out of 27 member states. This confirms a pattern that has been consolidating in recent years. In terms of youth entrepreneurship engaged in innovation, Campania is the leader in Italy, with 11.3% of the total, compared to the national average of 8.7%. It also leads in the growth rate of innovative startups (+325.6% between 2016 and 2024), as well as in the number of certified incubators (9, encompassing all provinces) and ranks first in Southern Italy in terms of patent filings. In hi-tech manufacturing and exports, it ranks second in Italy for manufacturing growth (+66.5%) and first for high-tech export growth, which will account for more than half of the total in 2024 (53.8%).
