For the third consecutive year, Bari has topped the Il Sole 24 Ore Climate Index. Based on the average data collected over the 2015-2025 decade, the ranking captures climate well-being and identifies the regional capitals that provide the most favorable weather conditions to residents. The rating is based on fifteen indices, which measure 15 different climate conditions that affect people's daily life. The Apulian capital is followed by many Adriatic coast cities, including Barletta-Andria-Trani (second position, based on average performance of the three regional capitals), Pescara, Ancona, and Chieti. The top 10 includes coastal areas (Livorno, Trieste, and Imperia), as well as highland cities (Pesaro and Urbino, based on the average of values reported in both metropolitan centers, and Enna). Carbonia (Southern Sardinia) is at the bottom of the list of cities most impacted by excessive heat, heat index, and relative humidity. Terni, Belluno, and Caserta all came before Sardinia's capital. Belluno, in particular, ranks last in three of the fifteen indicators: it receives the fewest hours of sunlight per day (an average of 6.8 compared to 9.2 in Agrigento, the sunniest city); it has the highest average number of cold days per year (19.5 in the decade under review); and it is also penalized by relative humidity, with 263 days per year falling outside of the comfort range, that is, below 30% or above 70%. However, the Venetian city also boasts the lowest number of tropical nights, only 15, during which — between midnight and six in the morning — temperatures remain above 20 degrees.
