The largest Italian manufacturers of orthopedic devices and mobility aids, each with a turnover of more than €5 million and a workforce of more than 17, had a combined turnover of more than €1.3 billion in 2024 (+4.8% over 2023 and +17.3% over 2022), employing more than 5,000 people (+0.5% over 2023 and +7.6% over 2022). This emerges from an analysis by the Mediobanca Research Area on the industry of orthopedic devices and mobility aids, published on the occasion of the Milan-Cortina Paralympics. Estimates for 2025 indicate revenue growth of around 5%, with a forecast of 7% for 2026. The companies under consideration are part of the larger MedTech sector, which is predicted to be worth $650 billion globally in 2025, with a 5% annual growth rate in the short term, driven by an aging population, technological advancement, and the progressive digitalization of healthcare. According to the Confindustria Medical Devices Research Center, MedTech in Italy is worth around €19 billion, with over 4,600 companies employing approximately 130,500 people. In our country, the sector is fragmented and very diversified, highly innovative and specialized, with small and medium-sized businesses coexisting with international corporations.
