On the occasion of the World Baseball Classic, the MEI - National Museum of Italian Emigration and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented "A Blue Diamond" in the United States, a unique event that brought together sport, culture, and Italian identity from all over the world. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Italian Baseball Federation and the Italian Consulate in Houston, which hosted the event attended by the entire Italian national team. The program, which accompanied the Italian national team's debut in the tournament, whose first match was played against Brazil on Saturday, March 7, included an event dedicated to the Italian baseball team, featuring meetings with players, recounting on-field experiences, and tastings of Italian food and wine specialties. For the event, the MEI, one of the initiative's curators alongside President Paolo Masini, helped create an immersive video featuring the stories of some of the most important Italian-descendant players who have affected the history of baseball in the Major Leagues. The immersive room will be set up in the Italian Cultural Center in Houston, while the video will be screened in parallel at the MEI in Genoa, forming a direct link between Italy and Texas under the banner of the Baseball World Classic. The story, based by Riccardo Schiroli's book "The Blue Diamond", spans several decades and generations of champions who helped shape baseball's reputation in the United States. Among them are some notable Yankees players, such Francesco Stephano Pezzolo (Ping Bodie), Tony Lazzeri, Joe DiMaggio, Frank Crosetti (The Crow), Phil Rizzuto, and Yogi Berra. Along with them, the video honors other major figures in baseball history of Italian descent, such as Ed Abbaticchio, Louis Americo Polli, Roy Campanella, Clementina Brida (Maud Nelson), Margaret Gisolo, Ernie Lombardi, Mike Piazza, Alex Liddi, and Tommy Lasorda.
