Amid the rapidly escalating crisis in the Middle East following Israeli and American airstrikes against Iran, an installation hosting Italian forces has also come under attack. On Wednesday evening, a missile struck the Italian military base in Erbil, located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The incident was confirmed by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, who revealed the news during a television appearance. “A missile has just hit our base in Erbil. I do not yet know the full consequences, but there are no casualties among the Italian personnel,” Crosetto said, later reiterating that all members of the contingent were safe. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also addressed the situation, describing the attack as extremely serious while urging caution before assigning responsibility. “We must carefully assess what happened. After that, we will decide what steps to take,” Tajani said. “It is certainly an unacceptable attack, but before identifying those responsible we must conduct a very thorough investigation.” Italian authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely as tensions across the region remain high.
