The Hoepli publishing house, founded in 1870 and one of the most historic companies in Italian publishing, has ended its 156-year run. The shareholders’ meeting approved the voluntary dissolution of the company and its liquidation. Milan and Italy are losing priceless cultural heritage. Hoepli was a point of reference in the technical-scientific sector (it was one of the first brands to import English and German models of the "manual" to Italy), and it supported Italians' personal and professional development by publishing texts such as Giuseppe Colombo's bestseller The Engineer's Manual (1877). Over the years, the publishing house has confirmed this purpose by consolidating a section dedicated to economics, finance, and marketing and dedicating itself, among other things, to scientific writing. It also owns a prestigious bookstore in the center of Milan. All of this has now been swept away by debts, disputes among shareholders and the crisis of the publishing market.
