The Naples Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into a colleague of Luca Canfora, the 51-year-old costume designer who died in Capri on September 1, 2023, for allegedly making false statements to the public prosecutor. Authorities say the statements were later contradicted by surveillance footage.
Canfora was part of Paolo Sorrentino’s film crew for Parthenope when he fell from the Giardini di Augusto. His body was recovered from the sea between Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni, near the Grotta dell’Arsenale. The death occurred off set, and Naples prosecutors opened an investigation.
A graduate of Filippo Palizzi Art Institute in Naples, Canfora began his career at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. He collaborated with renowned costume designers, including Oscar winner Milena Canonero (Grand Budapest Hotel), Carlo Poggioli (Cold Mountain, Sorrentino’s Youth and Loro), and Daniela Ciancio (La Grande Bellezza). He co-designed costumes for Netflix’s The Two Popes and worked on the series The Young Pope.
