An Italian returns to Formula One success after 20 years. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a 19-year-old Bolognese driver for Mercedes, won the Chinese Grand Prix, followed by teammate George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton (third) and Charles Leclerc (fourth). The last time an Italian stood on top of the podium was on March 19, 2006, when Giancarlo Fisichella won for Renault in Malaysia. Antonelli's victory at the Shanghai circuit is his first for Mercedes, following his pole position yesterday (a feat Italy had not achieved in 17 years). "I am overcome with emotion; I am on the brink of tears. I am extremely grateful to my team for their assistance in realizing this dream. Yesterday, I expressed my desire to restore Italy to its former prominence, and I have succeeded", he expressed, his eyes welling with tears. "At the start, I gave the Ferraris too much space, but then I recovered and managed to finish the race, even though that blockage at the end almost gave me a heart attack".
