The city of Ancona has been officially named Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2028, a prestigious designation announced by Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli. Quoting poet William Butler Yeats - “Turn actions into dreams and dreams into action” - Giuli highlighted the importance of balancing vision with practical implementation, a principle he said Ancona will embody through its cultural program. The minister also praised the overall quality of the competition, noting that while there can only be one winner, all finalist cities produced high-value projects that will not go to waste. Ancona secured the title with its winning dossier, “Ancona. Questo adesso” (“Ancona. This Now”), which aims to bring together and enhance the city’s cultural identity. Mayor Daniele Silvetti described the achievement as a significant milestone for the local community and the wider region, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the project. As part of the award, Ancona will receive €1 million in funding to support the implementation of its cultural program.
