The government has taken immediate action to address fuel prices by approving a decree that includes immediate measures to support families and enterprises. The measure, which has been signed by President Sergio Mattarella, is taken in response to price increases that are associated with the conflict in Iran. The package includes a temporary 20-day reduction in excise duties, saving approximately 25 cents per liter on gasoline and diesel and 12 cents on LPG. Tax breaks are also being implemented for specific groups: truckers will receive diesel support, while fishermen will receive a 20% fuel credit from March to May. The decree further enhances safeguards against potential price speculation, involving the Price Regulator, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Antitrust Authority. Oil companies will be compelled to publish prices daily, with penalties for violations. The total allocation is under one billion euros, but the government does not rule out extending the measures if the crisis continues.
