After a long wait of two decades, an Italian driver has returned to win a Formula 1 race. Kimi Antonelli, a young promise of Italian motorsport, secured his first victory in China. In an exclusive interview with SportMediaset, Antonelli shared the emotions of that moment, which he describes as "unforgettable". "I celebrated and I'm still enjoying it; it was my first time, and you never forget the first time. This is the most special victory of my career, so it was right to enjoy it because I will remember it for the rest of my life. On Sunday night, I couldn't sleep; I was traveling and I was hugging the photo of the trophy. In the next few days, I will have the opportunity to bring it home", Antonelli said, revealing the extraordinary intensity of a historic achievement not only for him but for Italy as a whole. When asked about his next goal, Antonelli makes no secret of his ambitions: "Right now, my biggest goal is to compete and try to win the world title". Regarding his relationship with Lewis Hamilton, the British multiple world champion, he added: "I have a wonderful relationship with Lewis and I'm delighted to have shared the podium with him; I'll never forget it. But I think it was emotional for him too, because he was on the podium with his former driver, who wrote the history of Formula One, and then... the present". Antonelli hasn't forgotten his Italian roots and his friendship with other great champions: "Valentino? We're friends. When we can, we go karting on the track near my home where I started. I can have my say on four wheels! But if we went on two, I'd say the story would be very different". The driver also spoke about the joy of receiving compliments from champions of other sports: “It was very nice to receive compliments from great champions who have written the history of Italian sport, Alberto Tomba sent me a message, but the thing that pleased me most was Sinner’s gesture dedicating the victory to me. It really moved me".
