The “Viking Libra”, the new cruise ship that Fincantieri is building for Viking, has been launched at the Ancona shipyard. The vessel will be delivered at the end of 2026. The "Viking Libra" will be the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, with a gross tonnage of roughly 54,300 tons, a length of 239 meters, and a capacity for up to 998 passengers in 499 rooms. Its propulsion system will be based in part on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. The project was designed with an emphasis on environmental considerations: the vessel will be capable of zero-emission operations, providing access to environmentally sensitive coastal areas. The collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, which began in 2012, remains a strong alliance in the cruise sector. Given the vessels previously ordered, the contracts signed, and the options agreed upon in recent months, the whole portfolio between the two organizations now stands at 26 units, subject to the market's standard financing conditions.
