Poste Italiane has made a decisive move on Telecom Italia (TIM), opening the door to the creation of a new major player in Italy’s infrastructure and digital services landscape.
The company’s board of directors, chaired by Silvia Maria Rovere, has approved the launch of a voluntary public offer for TIM, structured as a mix of cash and shares.
If completed, the deal would bring together two of Italy’s largest industrial groups, with the goal of integrating networks, services and expertise. The plan is to build a single platform combining telecommunications, digital services and infrastructure, leveraging assets already held by both companies.
For Poste Italiane, the move is consistent with its broader transformation in recent years, as it has expanded well beyond traditional postal services into financial, insurance and digital sectors. The potential integration with TIM is seen as a natural next step, particularly on the technology side.
Among the expected advantages are the combined scale of the two groups, their extensive nationwide presence and a large customer base spanning households, businesses and public administration.
