Leonardo has completed the acquisition of 100% of GEM Elettronica, strengthening its position in the defense electronics sector. The group already held a 65% stake and has now moved to full ownership.
The deal is aimed at reinforcing Leonardo’s capabilities in radar systems and technologies for naval and coastal applications. By fully integrating GEM’s expertise, the company is looking to expand its portfolio in areas such as navigation systems, radar sensors, optronics and situational awareness solutions.
GEM Elettronica, which reported revenues of over €45 million in 2025, operates in both military and civilian markets, with a focus on maritime security and surveillance.
The full integration is expected to generate industrial and technological synergies, enhancing Leonardo’s ability to respond to evolving market demands. The move also supports the group’s broader strategy of strengthening its international presence in high-tech sectors where innovation and system integration are key competitive factors.
