A massive explosion damaged a building in the Piana del Sole neighborhood, on Rome's western suburbs, gravely injuring an elderly couple. The couple, aged 86 and 84, were rescued from the debris by firefighters and transported to the hospital in critical condition. Initial reports indicate that the explosion was caused by an LPG gas leak, which entirely destroyed the structure and damaged numerous surrounding residences. Approximately 70 individuals were evacuated for safety reasons, while assessments are being conducted to determine the stability of the buildings. Firefighters, legal enforcement, and medical staff came to the scene, as did the Civil Protection Department, which is supporting those who have been displaced. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, who arrived on the scene, described the explosion as "extremely powerful" and expressed his sympathy to all of the families concerned.
