A total of 928 Italians served in the Israeli military between October 2023 and March 2025, according to newly disclosed figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request.
Of these, 828 held dual Italian-Israeli citizenship, while the remaining individuals had additional nationalities. The data was uncovered by investigative journalists from the UK-based outlet Declassified.
The figures contrast with earlier statements by Italian authorities, who had cited roughly 1,000 nationals in the Israeli Defense Forces shortly after the October 7 attacks. Later, the government stated that Israel does not provide detailed information about its military personnel.
Reports also suggest that some of these soldiers have traveled to Italy for psychological recovery after deployment.
