Salvatore Lauro, a notable shipowner and former Forza Italia senator, died unexpectedly at the age of 75. Lauro died at his house in Ischia, where he had returned a few weeks prior. He was born in 1951 and was the father of five children. He came from one of Campania's most recognizable shipping families. After qualifying as a master of the deep sea from the Procida Nautical Institute, he joined the company and became its leader in 1989. Under his tenure, the Lauro group went through a significant makeover, focused on hydrofoils and high-speed connectivity between Naples and the Gulf islands.
