Eni expects to recover at least one billion dollars of the €2.3 billion it is owed in Venezuela. These are credits accumulated during the period when Caracas could not export oil due to U.S. sanctions. However, following the US raid that deposed the Maduro regime, the credit position may improve, though this may take time. In addition to various oil licenses in the Orinoco region, whose values have been totally documented in the past, Eni operates in the country through the Perla offshore gas field, managed by the local business Cardón IV. It is one of Latin America's largest offshore fields, producing roughly 580 million cubic feet per day. The production is entirely sold to Venezuela’s PDVSA, which is insolvent. Now, in a less uncertain context and with approval from the White House, the recovery of Eni’s commercial credits could begin, and new business opportunities may open up. At least, this is the expectation of the Italian multinational.
