Jannik Sinner added another milestone to his extraordinary rise on Sunday, defeating Czech player Jiří Lehečka 6-4, 6-4 to win the 2026 Miami Open and cap off one of the most dominant hard-court swings in recent memory.
With the victory, the Italian star completed the coveted Sunshine Double - winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season - and did so without dropping a single set across either tournament. It was a historic feat that underlined not only his current form, but also the growing sense that men’s tennis is entering a new era with Sinner firmly at its center.
The final itself was briefly disrupted by a lengthy rain delay early in the second set, forcing both players off court for around 90 minutes. But the interruption did little to slow Sinner’s momentum. Calm, clinical and in complete control, he resumed exactly where he had left off, keeping Lehečka at arm’s length and closing out the match in straight sets.
For Sinner, the title carries weight well beyond the trophy itself. By winning in both California and Florida, he became the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete the Sunshine Double, joining one of the sport’s most exclusive clubs. His flawless run through the two tournaments only added to the sense of inevitability surrounding his current level.
Speaking after the match, Sinner said the achievement meant a great deal, especially after an intense stretch on tour. “This Sunshine Double means so much. It’s very difficult to do,” he said, adding that he was now looking forward to returning to Europe after weeks of relentless work and competition.
The world No. 2 also used the moment to celebrate a wider wave of Italian sporting success. A fan of both Formula 1 and MotoGP, Sinner said he has been inspired by the performances of fellow Italian athletes in recent weeks. That tribute was made even more visible in his now-viral message written on the camera after the match: “Bez Kimi Italia” — a nod to Marco Bezzecchi, fresh off his win at the United States Grand Prix, and Kimi Antonelli, who triumphed at the Japanese Grand Prix on the same weekend.
