Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to surprise Formula 1. At just 19 years old, the Italian driver took his second consecutive victory at Suzuka following his success in China, confirming his lead in the championship standings. Despite a complicated start, which saw him slide to sixth place at the first corner, Antonelli maintained his composure and pace, resolutely charging forward. The turning point of the race came midway, when the deployment of the safety car—caused by Oliver Bearman's accident—favored the Mercedes strategy. Antonelli pitted at the perfect time, fitting hard tires and rejoining the race still in the lead. From then on, the young Italian managed the race with authority, increasing his lead lap after lap until finishing nearly 14 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri, second in the McLaren. Third place went to Charles Leclerc, who had a solid performance in the Ferrari, ahead of George Russell, who was unable to trouble the Monegasque in the closing stages. With this win, Antonelli climbs to 72 points in the standings, nine more than teammate Russell, and becomes the youngest driver ever to lead the championship. This result confirms not only the Bolognese driver's talent, but also his strong connection with a currently very competitive Mercedes. The championship will now pause for almost a month following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix. Antonelli will be able to enjoy this break as a leader, knowing he is now much more than just a revelation.
