According to a Deloitte report, the photography sector recorded global growth of 19.1%, driven in particular by the entry of new generations of collectors. In 2025, the major international auction houses—Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillips—generated a total turnover of $40.4 million, up from $33.9 million in 2024. The sector is also showing positive signs in Italy, with approximately 250 photographers participating in auctions. Interest in female photography is particularly growing, with artists such as Vanessa Beecroft, Lisetta Carmi, Elisa Sighicelli, Luisa Lambri, and Letizia Battaglia sharing growing visibility and promising growth potential. The market is also characterized by the coexistence of two distinct types of collecting: on the one hand, new buyers attracted by the affordability and immediacy of photography, and on the other, more experienced collectors oriented towards museum-quality works. This dynamic contributes to making the sector particularly dynamic and inclusive, allowing even those with limited budgets to enter the market.
