Meta-Essilux's Ray-Ban smart glasses sold in Europe will have to feature removable batteries, a requirement that risks becoming a design headache for wearable manufacturers. Adding a removable cover would take up valuable space. Andrew Puzder, US Ambassador to the EU, said in Brussels: "There's only one place in the world where they can't be sold: the European Union." The new Meta display model (retail price $800) is also facing supply chain difficulties. And Zuckerberg would prefer to concentrate on the few units available on the US market. There's also unease about European AI rules: launching a less powerful version in Europe doesn't excite management. Essilux sold 7 million units in 2025. The market approved but was perhaps expecting higher volumes. So far, the European stock has fallen 27% since January, while its partner's share price has fallen 9%.
