In the third quarter of 2025, the NEET rate for people aged 15 to 34 fell to 15.1%, down from 17.8% in the same time in 2024 and continuing the downward trend seen in the second half of 2025. This figure reflects both the favorable impact of the NRRP on the Italian economy and the demographic fall of younger generations. In absolute terms, the number of NEETs (not in education, employment, or training) fell by almost 313,000, to 1.82 million young people. This is according to the Gi Group Foundation's quarterly newsletter, "Dedalo - Permanent Laboratory on the NEET Phenomenon". The unique initiative, which began in July 2025, established a continuous and systematic Observatory in Italy to understand, fight, and prevent the prevalence of young people who are not in education, job, or training. The fall in the phenomena affects all age groups, but to different degrees. The greatest notable progress is found among 20-24 year-olds, where the NEET rate has decreased from 18.4% to 13.8%. A notable reduction is also noted among 15-19 year-olds, with the rate dropping to 5.2% (-2.6 percentage points). The incidence falls to 18.9% among 25-29 year-olds and 22% among 30-34 year-olds (a decrease of 2.6 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively, compared to the same quarter in 2024). In the third quarter of 2025, 1.085 million young women were NEETs (-152,000 from 2024), while 735,000 men were NEETs (-161,000). The female rate decreases from 21.2% to 18.7%, while the male rate falls from 14.5% to 11.8%. Despite the overall improvement, the gender disparity remains consistent, confirming that women are more likely to be inactive. The inequalities are more noticeable in adulthood: among 30-34 year-olds, for example, the frequency is 30.7% among women and 13.7% among men.
