In Italy, more than 7% (7.5%) of students aged 11 to 13 have used a tobacco product (cigarettes, heated tobacco, or e-cigarettes). For those aged 14 to 17, the rate jumps to 37%. And the majority become smokers as adults. These data were obtained as a result of the proposed popular initiative to increase the price of all smoking and nicotine inhalation products by €5. Approximately two months following the launch of the "5 Euros Against Smoking" campaign, 35,000 signatures were collected, accounting for 70% of the 50,000 required to submit the bill to Parliament, where it would be discussed. The campaign is supported by the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research, the Umberto Veronesi Foundation, and the AIOM Foundation.
