Over a hundred students join their voices in a beautiful tribute to Francis of Assisi: "Requiem for St. Francis", a free concert on Friday, April 10 at 9 p.m. in the Church of San Fermo Superiore, Verona. The proposal arose as part of the celebrations commemorating the saint's 800th death anniversary and affirms the Veronese university's role in promoting international cultural projects. The University of Verona Choir, headed by Marcello Rossi Corradini, and the University of Lausanne Choir, conducted by Fruzsina Szuromi, will be the event's main performers. The two groups collaborated for months on a joint path, offering a repertoire that spans centuries and languages: from the monodic chant of the Missa pro Defunctis with the medieval sequence Dies Irae to Duruflé's Requiem op. 9, a sophisticated twentieth-century reimagining of Gregorian themes. The project brought together a big group of students for a valuable educational and organizational experience, made possible in part by a mutual hospitality system between the two choirs. The University of Verona and the Municipality are supporting the initiative, with Bcc Valpolicella Benaco Banca contributing. The Verona stage serves as an entryway to a more extensive journey: the program will be reprised in Lausanne on May 12, with Gustav Holst's Hymn of Jesus being included.
