The duopoly of world tennis holds, but Monte Carlo could immediately reopen the race for world number one. Carlos Alcaraz, who has reached 66 weeks at the top of the ATP ranking, is preparing for his return to clay, a surface that has historically favored him. However, Jannik Sinner, who is presently second with 12,400 points to the Spaniard's 13,590, has a great opportunity to bridge the gap and put pressure on the Spaniard in the Principality competition, where he has previously reached two semifinals. Lorenzo Musetti, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, is also attracting a lot of attention. The Italian must defend a very heavy points tally on clay: last year he was finalist in Monte Carlo and semifinalist in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros, results now worth 2,250 points out of his total 4,265. Behind him loom Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime, ready to take advantage of any slip. The sole change in the ATP Top 10 is the reversal of Ben Shelton, who is now eighth, and Taylor Fritz, who has slid to ninth. Further back, Flavio Cobolli and Luciano Darderi lose ground after dropping points earned a year ago in Bucharest and Marrakech: one is now 16th, the other 21st. Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi are also further behind.
