According to Pope Leo XIV, the Gospel provides hope, particularly for "those oppressed by evil, which corrupts history and confuses consciences. I'm thinking of individuals pained by war, Christians persecuted for their religion, and youngsters denied an education". At the Regina Coeli, the pontiff declared that “we must persevere in invoking the gift of peace for the whole world". Furthermore, he remembered "with particular affection" Pope Francis, who "on Easter Monday last year gave his life to the Lord". He asked the faithful to remember "his great testimony of faith and love" in this regard. The invitation was followed by applause from the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square. The Pope also mentioned today's International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, expressing hope that sport, "with its universal language of fraternity, may be a place of inclusion and peace". Finally, he addressed the issue of disinformation: "Often, in fact, the story of the truth is hidden by fake news, as they call it today, that is, lies, allusions, and unsubstantiated allegations. Despite such impediments, the truth does not remain hidden; rather, it comes toward us, alive and radiant, illuminating even the darkest shadows”. As a response, Jesus “thus becomes the good news to be witnessed in the world: the Lord’s Easter is our Easter, the Easter of humanity, because this man, who died for us, is the Son of God, who gave his life for us".
