A new municipal ordinance has come into force on Capri, targeting aggressive solicitation aimed at tourists. The measure, signed by the local police chief, is designed to curb what authorities describe as the most intrusive forms of street-level promotion, with fines reaching €500.
The crackdown focuses primarily on operators who stop passersby to advertise restaurants, excursions, island tours or boat trips. Under the new rules, persistent or invasive approaches are explicitly banned, as is the unsolicited distribution of flyers, maps and promotional materials. Violators face administrative penalties ranging from €25 to €500, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
The ordinance is part of a broader response to the mounting tourism pressure the island faces every day, especially in the historic centre and around the port area of Marina Grande. Local authorities say the aim is twofold: to improve the experience for visitors while also protecting residents’ quality of life by promoting a more orderly and less intrusive form of tourism.
