In 2025, Italy’s State Police reported a year of intense activity, handling nearly four million emergency calls and carrying out more than 1.2 million operations with a force of 96,000 officers. The figures were released as part of the force’s 174th anniversary, marking another milestone in its long institutional history. Anti-mafia efforts remained a central focus, with over 144 operations leading to 958 arrests, including 62 fugitives, and the seizure or confiscation of assets worth approximately €150 million.

Drug enforcement reached record levels, with more than 13 tons of narcotics seized. Authorities remain particularly concerned about fentanyl and emerging synthetic opioids, which continue to pose serious public health risks. Counterterrorism efforts also intensified, resulting in 37 arrests and increased monitoring of domestic extremism.

Cybercrime has become an equally pressing challenge. Police recorded over 800 attacks targeting critical national infrastructure and nearly 20,000 online fraud cases. Despite these threats, there was a notable decline in violent crime, with homicides and femicides decreasing significantly over the past two years.
