The 58th edition of Vinitaly, Italy's premier wine trade fair, has begun in Verona and will run until April 15. Five government ministers, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, and representatives from European and regional organizations all attended the opening, proving the event's strategic importance to the national economy. The 2026 edition begins in a complicated international context characterized by geopolitical tensions, trade uncertainty, and the impact of tariffs that continue to weigh on the sector. Despite this, the Italian wine sector is aiming to expand: wine exports are expected to reach €8.5 billion in 2026, with a goal of €10 billion in the near future, as stressed by ICE President Matteo Zoppas. The show will feature around 4,000 exhibitors, with 7% of them being international, confirming the event's international vocation. Opening access to new emerging markets is also a development opportunity that is increasingly regarded as strategic for supporting Italian wine's worldwide competitiveness.
